Court news: Wrongdoers sent to jail

The following cases were heard in the Boksburg Magistrates Court.

* Tagglin Boshoff (22), from Esther Park, appeared in court on a charge of possession of drugs, after being found in possession of 0.43g of CAT on September 5, last year.

He has a previous conviction of assault which happened five years ago in Kempton Park.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on February 15. He was sentenced to a R4 000 fine or four months in prison, wholly suspended for five years.

Magistrate Hans Havenga presided over the matter and prosecutor Phelisa Setshedi appeared on behalf of the state.

* Bongani Nkosi (23), of Vosloorus, appeared in court on February 10, for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

On September 6, last year, he stabbed Vusi Khumalo in the neck with a broken bottle.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty. He was sentenced to a R5 000 fine or 15 months in prison, of which the court suspended R4 000 of the fine or 12 months of the imprisonment.

He had no previous convictions.

He was unable to pay the fine so he is serving three months in prison.

Magistrate Hans Havenga presided over the matter and prosecutor Phelisa Setshedi appeared on behalf of the state.

* Phakiso Motloung (34), of Extension 25 Ratanda, and his co-accused Malesela Ngoepe (36), were found guilty of fraud on February 10.

The two pleaded not guilty to fraud and theft. They were found guilty on the main charge which is fraud.

They were each sentenced to R12 000 or 24 months in prison, of which R9 000 or 18 months in prison was suspended for five years.

They had no previous convictions.

Magistrate Jurg Vivier presided over the case and prosecutor Themba Maluleke appeared on behalf of the state.

* Noszizwe Khumalo (22), appeared in court on February 10 on a charge of theft.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty.

He stole seven energizer battery chargers, valued at R909.93, from Pick n Pay on November 26, last year.

He was sentenced to R3 000 or three months in prison.

He had no previous convictions.

Magistrate van Harte presided over the case and prosecutor Busi Mofokeng represented the state.

* Ntsimbi Ndlovu was sentenced on February 9, on a charge of theft.

He stole four music CDs from the Boxer store, valued at R160, on February 7.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty and sentenced to a fine of R900 or 90 days in prison which was wholly suspended for five years.

He had no previous convictions.

Magistrate Ryan van Harte presided over the case and prosecutor Busi Mofokeng represented the state.

* Ernest Sekaitu (46), of Lindelani in Windmill Park, appeared on February 5, on a charge of theft.

He pleaded not guilty on January 27, but the court found him guilty and sentenced him.

On November 13, in Sunward Park, the accused stole copper cable belonging to the Ekurhuleni metro.

He had no previous convictions and was sentenced to R4 000 fine or eight months imprisonment.

Magistrate Ryan van Harte presided over the case and Shadrack Futshana appeared on behalf of the state.
