UPDATE: El Ridge Centre store robbers nearly hit a woman as they flee

Two men, who robbed a store at the El Ridge Shopping Centre, on February 11, nearly hit a woman as they drove away at a high speed.

The men had just stolen an I-Mac computer worth R27 000 from the store, and were fleeing the scene in a red Golf.

A joint effort by Saber Tactical Security and the Impala Park CPF saw them being nabbed within 10 minutes.

Saber Tactical’s Clinton Warnock, who was at the centre at the time, said he heard screeching car tyres and then noticed a Golf speeding away.

“The Golf nearly hit a woman at the boom gate and I noticed people running after it. At first I thought they had stolen the car. I then gave chase.”

Warnock caught up with the thieves and forced them to stop on the N12 highway, just before Tom Jones off-ramp.

The stolen computer was recovered in their car.

Benoni police arrived at the scene and arrested the suspects.

The Advertiser initially heard that the robbery was carried out by a gang of men, but it was established that there were only two suspects.
