Steroid saga: Pupils suspended, face criminal charges

The two learners who were caught with steroids at Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen have been suspended from school and also face criminals charges.

School Governing Body chairperson Kobus Kleynhans said the two, aged 16 and 17, were served with letters of suspension.

They are expected to appear before a school disciplinary hearing on February 10.

“They will be taken through a normal hearing process and they also have a right to representation,” Kleynhans said.

The police were called to the school after one pupil was spotted buying steroids outside the school property. Another pupil was also identified during the search; they were found with steroids worth R2 500, on January 29.

They were arrested and released into the custody of their parents.

Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson Juanita Coetzer said a docket has been opened against the two, and they will face criminals charges.
