Shovel-wielding raiders gag, tie and rob victims

A 57-year-old man and his domestic worker were tied up, robbed and left traumatised, after two young armed men entered the man’s home, in Plantation.

The horror raid took place at about 11am, on Wednesday, February 4 and carried on for about half an hour.

According to the house owner, who wished to remain anonymous, the thugs jumped over the wall and then confronted the domestic worker who was, at the time, standing in the yard.

They also grabbed a shovel that was lying in the yard to use as a weapon.

“They grabbed the woman and forced her to open the door for them to enter the house,” said the owner.

“She screamed for help, but they gagged her and forced her to show them my bedroom.

”She complied and walked with the shovel-wielding man and his accomplice to where they found me asleep.

“We were threatened with violence before they tied us up with a rope and a power cable.

”They then demanded that I hand over jewellery and cash, while they assaulted me with the shovel.”

The thugs fled with up to R30 000 worth of goods and R350 in cash. The stolen goods included a laptop, tablet, alcohol and cameras.

A spokesperson for the Boksburg SAPS, Kwendzakwakhe Ngobese, confirmed the incident and said that a case of house robbery has been registered.

“At the moment there have been no arrests; we are still looking for the suspects,” he said.

An ambulance was also called to the scene to examine the victims.

The owner said he was deeply shocked and that it was the first time he had been targeted by robbers.

“I’m still sad that I have now lost all the information I saved on the laptop,” he explained.

”It’s sad…it’s terrible, but what can you do?

”You would think that you’re safe in your own home, but you’re not; maybe I have to beef up security.”

* Around the same time, other robbers forced their way into a house in Parkrand, and stole R26 000 worth of goods.

According to the report, three men damaged the gate to enter the yard, before they forced open the dining room door to gain access to the house.

The intruders found the victim asleep in her bedroom before demanding money.

They stole her wedding ring, TV set and other valuable goods.
