Accident leaves man and woman with critical injuries

A man (27) was critically injured and a woman (22) seriously hurt in a collision between a truck and a bakkie, close to the Pretoria Road and Saligna Street intersection, near the N12 highway, in Boksburg, on January 15.

When ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene, they found a bakkie stuck under a truck.

ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said the occupants of the bakkie, a man and woman, sustained multiple injuries.

The woman was found lying on the pavement.

“The man was hanging halfway out of the bakkie; his legs were in the vehicle and the rest of his body on the road,” said Bodasing.

“Both patients were disorientated. They were treated on scene and transported to local hospitals.”

The occupants of the truck were unscathed.

The EMPD confirmed that they are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving.

“It is not clear at this stage what was the actual cause of the accident but an independent witness alleged that a Nissan truck with two male occupants in their 40s made a u-turn at an intersection controlled by traffic lights, before a bakkie drove into it,” said EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokhoseng.

The injures persons were rushed to the Sunward Park hospital for medical treatment.
