Boksburg Prison warder busted for mandrax

A correctional official from Boksburg Prison has been arrested for being in possession of drugs on Thursday, January 8.

This was confirmed by Boksburg Correctional Services spokesperson, Patrick Thobejane.

He added that at around 7am on that day, a routine stop and search exercise was conducted at the perimeter entrance gate by the security officials.

“During the search, a suspicious looking package containing tablets was allegedly discovered in a vehicle belonging to one of our officials.

“On enquiry, it is alleged that the suspect declared the tablets as being headache tablets but this was disputed by our medical staff.

“The management then compared them to the specimen of prohibited pills and allegedly found it to be Mandrax pills.

“Disciplinary steps were immediately instituted and also a SAPS case was opened against the alleged official who is in his late forties.

“Allegedly 19 Mandrax tablets with suspected street value of around R2000 were discovered and counted in front of the official before he was taken into custody by SAPS Dawn Park.

“Parallel investigations are being conducted by SAPS and Department of Correctional Services to obtain more information in this regard. The department remains committed to routing out smuggling and corruption and all its elements.

“All prohibited substances and articles will strongly be prevented from entering our facilities.”
