Boksburg North SAPS crime briefs over the festive season

Boksburg North SAPS crime briefs for the festive season:

Truck hijacking turns into perjury

A truck driver was arrested on a charge of perjury, after he confessed that the truck he was driving was not hijacked, as he initially stated.

He was part of a deal where he had to hand over the truck with the load to robbers.

The incident occurred while the truck driver was on his way to a warehouse, when a vehicle with blue lights stopped him, on December 19.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS communications officer, Lieut Juanita Coetzer, two unknown males, in Metro Police uniform, allegedly approached him.

“The driver said they pointed a firearm at him and took him, with the truck, to the N3 highway,” she said.

”When the investigating officer interviewed the complainant, he confessed that he was not hijacked.

”He had handed over the truck, with the load, to his accomplices.”

The complainant was arrested on a charge of perjury and detained at the Boksburg North SAPS.

Robbers flee without their loot

Two robbers broke the lock of premises next to a truck company and overpowered the guard, during the early morning hours on December 29.

According to Coetzer, the suspects then drove in with their own truck and cut the palisade fence between the premises and the truck company.

“They went through the palisade, broke open a container full of truck tires and then loaded their truck with the loot,” she said.

“They did not, however, take into consideration that it had rained and that the soil was wet and soggy, so they tried their best to get their truck out, but they were stuck.”

The thugs fled without their loot.

Man arrested for abalone possession

A man was arrested for the possession of seven pieces of Abalone and a number of allegedly false passports, on January 6.

According to Coetzer, a policeman was driving along Rietfontein Road when he noticed a suspicious-looking man driving a Opel.

“He stopped the man and searched his vehicle, where he found the stolen goods,” she said.

The suspect was arrested and detained at the Boksburg North SAPS.
