Peermont honours educators for hard work

The Peermont School Support Programme (PSSP) hosted a Principals’ Breakaway for 80 educators from the seven high schools and their feeder primary schools, in Ekurhuleni and Sedibeng, supported by PSSP, at Glenburn Lodge, at the end of 2014.

PSSP is a R30-million investment initiative supported by Peermont Hotels, Casinos and Resorts, to develop centres of education excellence.

During the breakaway, educators and schools that have embraced the PSSP’s ethos of ”Lead, Inspire and Motivate”, since its inception in 2010, were acknowledged and presented with awards.

Among the schools recognised were:

* Sunward Park High School that received the awards for Best Annual National Assessment (ANA) results in English in Grade Nine and the Innovation Programme Award for becoming the first government school in South Africa to implement E-learning.

* Lethulwazi Secondary School (Vosloorus) that received the award for biggest improvement in the ANA results for English in Grade Nine.

* Thuto Lesedi Secondary School (Vosloorus) that received the top Press Club award.

* Abinala Primary School (Vosloorus) that received the award for best result in the ANA exams in English in Grade Three.

Reconciliation entrepreneur Seth Naicker, of indiAfrique, facilitated a social cohesion intervention which engaged delegates in a ”pictures of reality game”.

Educators were divided into groups where they had to act out scenarios depicting problem areas occurring at their schools, including scenes of violence, abuse, substance abuse, teenage pregnancies, gambling, lack of discipline and bullying, and then collectively sought solutions.

The aim of the game was to show educators that they are all actors for change.
