EMPD spokesperson Kobedi Mokheseng, confirmed the incident, adding that it took place just before midnight on Tuesday, December 15.
Mokheseng says, one person (a female passenger) died on the scene, one was critically injured, four people sustained serious injuries, and two sustained moderate injuries.
“The information we currently have from the scene is that one of the three vehicles apparently skipped a red traffic light and collided with the second vehicle, before the third one collided with the primary accident scene,” says Mokheseng.
Netcare 911 spokeswoman Santi Steinmann said Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived on the scene and found three vehicles scattered over the roadway.
“The injured patients were treated on scene and transported to hospital for further medical care,” Steinmann said in a press statement.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
