New Disaster Management satellite office officially opens

MMC for Community Safety, Clr Mthuthuzeli Siboza, officially opened the new Disaster Management satellite office in Kempton Park on Tuesday, December 9.

According to Siboza, the opening of the office will enable the municipality to provide improved disaster management services to the communities in the area.

“The building will house disaster management functionaries and these will be working with communities to reduce disaster risks.

“The coordination of smaller disaster and humanitarian events may also be managed from this venue, and so this venue becomes an important cog in the disaster management wheel,” said Siboza.

He added that the public must remember that disaster management is everyone’s business so all stakeholders, community, municipal entities, departments and business must consider how disaster will affect them and look at increasing their resilience to disasters of every kind.

The Ekurhuleni metro is pulling no punches when it comes to the safety of its residents.

“Recently, the metro saw the passing out of the Peace Corps volunteers in Tembisa, and now it has officially opened the new Disaster Management Satellite Office,” says metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

“Formally a garage, the premises is now a place in which plans to reduce disaster and the impacts thereof will be mapped.

“Since the new office is at the doorstep of the OR Tambo International Airport, employees at the satellite office will work closely with airport authorities to put into place and improve systems and procedures, to monitor and react to disaster risk.” – @NalediBoksburg
