Possible link between Cuburne and Siphamandla murders

There is a possibility that the murder cases of Siphamandla Madikane and Cuburne van Wyk's are linked.

This is according to Gauteng police commissioner Lesetja Mothiba, who says the police are investigating such a possibility.

He accompanied Gauteng Premier, David Makhura on a visit to families affected by child murders in Reiger Park on Monday, November 24.

Gauteng Premier David Makhura.

The reason for the visit, said Makhura, was to update the families on the investigations into their children’s deaths.

Makhura visited the families of Cuburne, Taegrin Morris and Siphamandla.

The visit comes after all three children were murdered.

The Premier was also accompanied by Ekurhuleni mayor Mondli Gungubele, Gauteng MEC for Community Safety Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane,and Gauteng Transport MEC Ismail Vadi.

Siphamandla’s (10) half naked body was found by a passer-by in a mine dump in November last year.

Cuburne’s burnt body found at a mine dump in August.

Gauteng Premier David Makhura and others visited families who lost children to murder.

They met with Taegrin’s family in Delmore Gardens. The four-year-old was killed when his parents’ Volkswagen Golf was hijacked in Reiger Park in July.

The boy was stuck in his seatbelt, and dragged along the road as the hijackers drove away. The car was later abandoned 8.5km from the scene.

Makhura made a pledge to the families that justice would be served regarding their children’s deaths.

Aa multi-disciplinary team will be working with the Reiger Park community to deal with various issues plaguing the area in the East Rand.

* Reiger Park community members also met on Monday evening, November 17 to discuss the Taegrin and Cuburne murder cases.

Guests included ward councillor Charlie Crawford, the MMC for Community Safety Mthuthuzeli Siboza, and Reiger Park SAPS station commander Col Sipho Mathebula.

Also present at the meeting were the parents and relatives of Taegrin, Cuburne and Luke Tibbetts (who was hit by a stray bullet while on his mother’s lap in a car in Westbury).

According to Reiger Park community leader, Hein April, their prime objective was to create an opportunity for the NPA to meet residents and elaborate on its reasons for withdrawing the charges against Thamsanqa Twala, the initial suspect in the Taegrin murder.

However, the representative of the NPA never showed up.
