Mayor calls for urgent arrests in taxi violence shooting

The Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni Cllr Mondli Gungubele has expressed shock at the death of five people allegedly as a result of taxi violence in Windmill Park this morning.

“This is a regrettable incident and I hope that those behind these brutal killings are brought to book as soon as possible,” Gungubele reacted.

He said it cannot be accepted that in this day and age people still resort to violence in an attempt to resolve misunderstandings of any kind.

“This is a sad turn of events. In a democratic dispensation you expect people to engage freely on their differences and find an amicable solution without the loss of life,” Gungubele elaborated.

He then appealed to the police and members of the taxi associations to work together to expose the culprits behind the shootings so that they can be brought to book.

“We have increased police visibility in the area and efforts to normalize the situation and bring back peace and stability are already under way.

“My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of those who were killed this morning. I also wish the injured a speedy recovery,” Gungubele added.
