Reiger Park to celebrate World Aids Day
The Reiger Park Love and Hope Centre (NPO) will be hosting a memorial candlelight service for all those who died of HIV/Aids and have been forgotten over the years.
This memorial service is in line with World Aids Day on December 1, however, the service will take place at the Reiger Park Civic Centre, on December 2, at 8am to noon.
According to Reiger Park Lay Clr Vincent Flagg, the purpose of the service is to break the HIV/Aids stigma, so that patients can get used to the HIV virus.
“There isn’t a cure, but at least there is treatment.
“We also want to encourage our youth at schools to know their status at the end of the day and to get tested.
“We don’t forget the babies that also died due to mother and child infection,” says Flagg.
He is making a plead at mothers that have been tested positive after giving birth, to please comply with their medication after birth.
“The child can test negative, but the mother must go on with treatment.”
There will be various speakers at the service.
Anyone is welcome.
