Nine years imprisonment for fraud

Deon Oosthuizen (47) was recently sentenced to nine years imprisonment for three counts of fraud.

According to Lieut Juanita Coetzer, communications officer for the Boksburg North SAPS, a complainant opened a case with three counts of fraud against the suspect.

“Oosthuizen advertised online that he had a flat to rent and victims deposited cash, for the deposit and first month’s rent, into his account.”

She says on the day the complainants wanted to move into the premises, they found each other in the flat. They had all signed a lease for the same flat.

Lieut Coetzer adds that Det-Const Irene Mudau investigated the case and arrested the suspect as he was signing for parole at the Boksburg Department of Corrections.

Oosthuizen had previous convictions for theft, drugs, driving under influence, reckless and negligent driving and fraud.

* Mbangeni Nyathi (22) was sentenced to seven years imprisonment for business break-in.

Coetzer says that on October 29, the accused broke into a company in Anderbolt and stole sheets of wood and machinery to the value of R600 000.
