Fundraiser looks at human trafficking horrors

A Breakfast at Tiffany’s will be taking place on October 25, at Boksburg High School.

The fundraiser is part of the National Freedom Network and to help fight human trafficking.

It will take place from 10am to 1pm. Tickets cost R100 per person, including brunch.

The theme for the day is black with a touch of bling.

“Human trafficking is the second-largest organised crime, superseded only by drug trafficking. It’s also the fastest growing form of organised crime.

“Having said that, unfortunately most South Africans are not aware that human trafficking exists, and if they do, they are under the impression that is happens in other countries,” says event organiser, Chantal Tewitz.

“It is for this reason that I host a yearly event to raise awareness of the atrocities associated with human trafficking, both within our own country, and in the rest of the world.”

Tewitz became aware of the horrors associated with human trafficking through an organisation called the A21 Campaign.

“I rely heavily on the community to provide support through donations and sponsorship.

“This year’s event is 70 per cent sponsored, so the majority of the ticket sales will go to the network partners and the toiletries from the toiletry drive will be given to victims in various shelters in Gauteng.”
