Skydiving at 65 a complete surprise
Even though it was never a life-long dream of hers, Carol Smith (65), says she would definitely go skydiving again.
What started off as a joke turned into a life-changing experience for this Boksburg resident.
“My grandson, Jeff Strydom, went bungee-jumping and asked if I wanted to go with him. I said I would rather go skydiving,” Carol says.
What she didn’t know is that her grandson would indeed surprise her with an opportunity to jump out of a plane.
On September 27, Carol jumped 10 400 feet from the air to plummet to the ground at 200km/h.
“Although I am afraid of heights, the instructors made me feel so at ease, and the moment I put my feet outside the plane, I knew I couldn’t turn back,” she says.
Carol adds that the best part of skydiving was the free-fall and the flip in the air.
“I am not a ‘spur of the moment’ kind of person, and if I got to skydive again, I would appreciate it even more.” – @CarmenBoksburg
