National spotlight on all things crafty

Crafting is very popular in Boksburg.

This is according to Yohina Maharaj the East Rand Mall branch.

During Creative Craft Week, CNA stores countrywide partnered with various role-players in the industry to bring crafters in-store demonstrations of crafting products and books.

Boksburg crafters had the opportunity to meet with various craft book authors at the the mall from Wednesday, September 24 till Sunday September 28.

Alet Genis was one of these authors and has three craft books under her belt.

Her latest release is Fabric Decoupage, which she says will give crafters an idea of using what you have, recycling and adding fabric to create beautiful creative pieces of art.

“I’ve always been a keen crafter, I learnt from trial and error and testing various techniques and methods of being creative,” she says.

Author of Fabric Decoupage, Alet Genis, talks to crafter Elize du Plessis at the crafters in-store promotion at CNA.

Genis has been crafting for 15 years.

Wilsia Metz, from one of the publishing companies partnering in the in-store demonstrations, says crafting has grown phenomenally.

“Crafting is an activity that’s recession-proof. It’s a nice thing that you can do at home to give as gifts, to sell at craft markets and even as décor,” she adds.

Metz points out that the most popular crafting method is paper craft. This she says includes scrap- booking, card-making, and albums.

Crating includes mosaics, pewter, decoupage, off-the-page papercraft, polymer clay, mixed media, Encaustic Art and jewellery making. – @TumeloBoksburg
