Rooms damaged by fire at the Birchwood Hotel

Lindiwe Sangweni Siddo has confirmed that a fire broke out at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conferencing Centre with a total of seven (7) rooms in one of the blocks undergoing renovations on Friday night, September 19 were damaged.

The Ekurhuleni Emergency Services Department (EMS) was dispatched to the hotel and the fire was satisfactorily
extinguished in a couple of hours.

EMS quickly searched the rooms to make sure that there were no injuries or casualties.

The Advertiser reported on Sunday that only two rooms were damaged.

Guests in the nearby hotel blocks were evacuated and moved to parts of the Hotel that were safe and away from the
fire.

An investigation is ongoing to establish the cause of the fire.
