“This is despite escalating incidents of drug-related crime across the province and many communities taking to the streets in protest over the lack of response from government,” says DA spokesperson on Community Safety, Michele Clarke MPL.
She says that the department gives very little information regarding possible plans or even why there is such a lack of urgency in this regard.
“With young children, such as four-year-old Luke Tibbetts from Westbury falling victim to drug-related crimes, we cannot delay any longer in implementing a strategy to combat this scourge.”
“Drugs and related crimes are tearing apart communities, families and Gauteng’s social fabric. They are keeping our children out of school and creating fear on the streets of this province.”
Clarke mentions there are a number of anti-drug strategies, in some drug hotspots across the world, that have been hugely successful.
“We cannot wait for the next Luke Tibbetts to fall victim to such crimes before government tackles this issue with the urgency it deserves.” – @IschkeBoksburg
