Counterfeit good dealers sentenced

The following cases were heard in the Boksburg Magistrates Court:

* Donald Kadondara (32), from Katlehong, appeared in court on a charge of copyright infringement.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on September 8 and sentenced on September 11, to R3 000 or three months imprisonment.

On June 18, the accused was arrested for selling 127 copied DVD’s, without the copyright holder’s consent, at an intersection in Boksburg.

According to the accused he bought the DVD’s for R5 each from a man in a parking area at a shopping centre.

Magistrate Josias presided over the matter, and Palesa Setshedi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Sipho Shimabano (30), from Winterveld, appeared in court on a charge of selling counterfeit goods.

He pleaded not guilty, was found guilty and sentenced on September 9, to R5 000 or six months imprisonment suspended for five years.

On June 12, the accused was caught selling 77 counterfeit DVD’s at an intersection in Boksburg.

Magistrate Emmanuelle Magampa presided over the matter, and Angeline Mooiman appeared on behalf of the State.

n Ryan Michaels (26) appeared in court on a charge of theft.

He pleaded guilty, was found guilty and sentenced on September 11, to R3 000 or three months imprisonment suspended for five years.

On August 9, the accused stole steel, to the value of R500, from Dean Ngwenya.

Magistrate Josias presided over the matter, and Palesa Setshedi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Quinton du Plooy (32) from Van Dyk Park appeared in court on a charge of theft.

He pleaded guilty was found guilty, and sentenced on September 16. The magistrate postponed the passing of sentence to February, 2015, on condition that the accused attend a rehabilitation programme.

On September 9, the accused stole a cellphone, drill and toolbox from Tienus du Plooy.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter, and Themba Maluleke appeared on behalf of the State.

* Nomsa Mutanho (26), from Berea, appeared in court on a charge of theft.

She pleaded guilty and was found guilty on August 19 and sentenced on September 10, to three years imprisonment, of which one year is suspended for five years.

On August 7, the accused stole nine jerseys from Foshini, East Rand Mall, to the value of R3 354.

She had previous convictions of fraud in March 2010, theft in August 2012 and November 2012.

Magistrate Ryan van Harte presided over the matter, and Busi Mafokeng appeared on behalf of the State.

* Tanita Magagule (22), form Villa Liza, appeared in court on a charge of theft.

She pleaded not-guilty on August 18, was found guilty and sentenced on September 9 to 12 months imprisonment suspended for five years.

From December 20 to 21 the accused stole R9 490 cash from BSG Boksburg.
