Suspects in flea market killing sentenced

The three men who shot and killed a shop owner in the East Rand Traders Square, on September 14, 2013, were sentenced in the Palm Ridge High Court on September 2.

Molakane Sifiso was sentenced to 20 years direct imprisonment, Ernest Makhubela was sentenced to life imprisonment and Joseph Mabande was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.

According to Lieut Juanita Coetzer, communications officer for the Boksburg North SAPS, the victim was busy in his shop, when three armed men accosted him.

“The victim told them that he does not have money and one of the suspects then shot him four times.

“Some of the shoppers gave chase after the suspects and when Sgt Sakhile Dladla and Const Patrick Maphisa arrived, they apprehended one suspect,” she says.

Coetzer adds that another shop owner managed to apprehend another suspect.

The third suspect got away.

The case was then assigned to Det-Const Lesibana Makgota of the Boksburg North Detective Branch. After investigation he apprehended the third suspect. – @CarmenBoksburg
