Appointment of contractors delays speed hump installation

The metro is still in the process of appointing consulting engineers and patching contractors to install humps on All Black Road, Anderbolt, says metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

This is where a six vehicle accident involving a truck recently occurred.

The accident, which was allegedly as a result of a lack of speed humps on that road, is said to have been the second incident this year.

Karen Smit from Tbhokisi Lelsimbi, the factory where the accident took place, says on July 31, they had an incident where a bakkie drove into their forklift.

“Since the upgrading of All Black Road, the road has become a raceway for many vehicles. There are no speed limit boards in the road,” she says.

Smit says that in March this year the company submitted an application for Traffic Calming Measures with the necessary signatures.

According to Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD, the department’s speed section as well as the Precinct will be sensitised about the problem, so that necessary interventions are employed to try to resolve the problem.

“As for speed calming measures, that is the competency of Roads and Civil Works and City Engineers departments,” says Kgasago.

Gadebe says the requested humps will be constructed upon the appointment of service providers and approval of the application thereof. – @TumeloBoksburg
