According to the police, Simmers and his two accomplices allegedly attacked the woman in the open veld along Cason Road, in Blue Sky, in 2012.
The three were subsequently arrested and charged with the crimes, and the matter is now being heard in the High Court.
While on bail, Simmers, along with his accomplices, attended the trial, but he failed to attend the most recent hearing, which was scheduled for July 29.
A warrant of arrest was issued for Simmers, and his bail money was forfeited.
Police raided his last known physical address on a number of occasions, but could not find him.
They believe that he might be hiding somewhere in Durban.
Simmers is considered to be dangerous and police urge people not to approach him, but to contact the investigating officer, Det Const Meshack Masoma, if he is seen.
