Hospital welcomes its first baby

The newly opened Natalspruit Hospital welcomed its first birth on August 20.

The baby boy, weight 3.95kg, was delivered at 8.50am at the new facility.

The mother, Nonzwakazi Msindo, of Palm Ridge, Ekurhuleni, was relocated with other patients on August 18, from the old hospital to the new facility in Vosloorus.

“When MEC Mahlangu says this is a state-of-the art hospital she is not exaggerating. This is a beautiful facility and I am honoured that my son, Mohamed, is the first baby to be born here,”says Msindo.

“This is a historic moment for both of us; the relocation on Monday was smooth with no hassles. ‘

“I would like to thank all the staff members who assisted me in the delivery of my baby.”Acting hospital CEO, Dr Patricia Africa, commended maternity ward staff who delivered the baby.

“While we are still settling in our staff are seeing patients, this birth bears testimony to that,”she says.

“I take my hat off to the maternity ward personnel for the swift delivery of this baby.”

She adds that moving house is quite a complex process, so they plead with the community to bear with them until they have settled down, but they will not turn any patients away.

The newly built 821-bed regional hospital will be officially opened on August 28.

Among others, the facility will offer services such as family medicine; 24-hour casualty; speech and language therapy; ophthalmology; radiography and an eye, nose and throat clinic. – @CarmenBoksburg
