EMPD officers recover vehicles, guns

The intensive pursuit, last Monday afternoon, by EMPD Community Liaison Unit members of a stolen Toyota Corolla that was used as a getaway vehicle, after a house robbery in Johannesburg, ended in Tokoza.

The chase yielded the recovery of two stolen vehicles and two stolen pistols.

The robbery in the Johannesburg area took place at about 3pm and the recoveries by the Metro Police occurred at 5.30pm.

“The Metro Police put on so much heat that the five suspects got cold feet and abandoned the stolen BMW that was escorting their accomplices in a stolen Toyota Corolla from the house robbery; they also ditched two handguns,” said EMPD spokesman Wilfred Kgasago.

“The two vehicles were abandoned about 20m apart and were still idling with their doors wide open when the officers found them in Mthethwa Street, Tokoza.”

It emerged that the black BMW sedan escorting the Toyota Corolla had been hijacked in Primrose on August 23.

A plasma television set, three cellphones, R2 500 cash and two laptops taken in the house robbery were not recovered.

Both the recovered vehicles were taken to the SAPS Van Ryn Deep Pound, in Benoni, and the two handguns were handed over to the Germiston SAPS for forensic investigation.
