The lack of speed control was allegedly the cause of a huge accident on Thursday, August 14, involving six vehicles.
Karen Smit from Tbhokisi Lelsimbi, which is the factory where the accident took place in front of, says a truck overtook a bakkie in All Black Road, which was indicating to turn right into Hamba Gahle Road.
“The truck lost control, collided with the bakkie and then crashed into four of our vehicles which were parked in front of our factory. Two of our bakkies were damaged so badly that they had to be written off. The wall in front of the factory also needs to be replaced,” says Smit.
No people were injured or killed.
“On July 31, we had an incident where a bakkie drove into our forklift. Since the upgrading of All Black Road, the road has become a raceway for many vehicles.”
Smit says that in March this year, the company submitted an application for calming measures with the necessary signatures.
Ward 22 Clr Benno Robinson acknowledges that he received the application and says he forwarded the document to the relevant officials.
“It is not my decision whether humps should be put in or not. An investigation needs to be conducted and it could take up to four months,” says Robinson.
“I have contacted the relevant officials to expedite the matter.”
Smit says people need to slow down on the road.
“We understand that this is an industrial area which makes it a busy road, but some people speed in excess of 60km/h. Will something only be done after a life is tragically taken in our road?” – @TumeloBoksburg
