Suspect in murder of Cuburne due in court

The suspect in the murder of Cuburne van Wyk (3) will make his second court appearance on Friday, August 22.

Mine employees found Cuburne’s partially burnt body at a mine dump in Reiger Park, three days after he was reported missing.

Exactly a week after the child was kidnapped, EMPD officers arrested a man on suspicion of kidnapping and murdering the little Ramaphosa boy.

The man was cornered in Lambton and is known to the community.

He was allegedly the last person to be seen with Cuburne.

He has made an initial court appearance at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday, August 15.

The matter was postponed and he (the suspect) was remanded in custody.

Ekurhuleni mayor, Mondli Gungubele, said Cuburne’s killer deserves the harshest punishment.

Cuburne was laid to rest on Saturday, August 16, following a funeral service at the Reiger Park Old Apostolic Church.

A few months ago, a 10-year-old boy was also abducted in the same area, and his body was found days later hidden in the bushes along Elsburg Road.

He was allegedly raped, killed and also partially burnt.

Police are yet to make arrests in connection with the two murders.
