Hannelie serves second term as Lion’s president
Hannelie van der Merwe (55) has been chosen to serve a second term as president of the Boksbug Lion’s Club.
She has begun her second one-year-term on July 19, following a presidential induction dinner, held at the Benoni Lake Golf Club, on Saturday, July 19.
During her previous tenure as president of the lions, Van der Merwe vowed that members of the club would give the club more exposure through their community services and increase the number of new members coming into the club.
The Lions have supported the blind and vision-impaired, fed the hungry and carried out a number of community services.
Van der Merwe became the second female president of the club at an induction ceremony held at The Mannah Executive Guest Lodge, in Pomona, on July 27, last year.
She is now the first woman president of the Boksburg Lion’s Club to serve more than a single year.
Van der Merwe served as an ordinary member of the club for more than 24 years, before she became president.
She first became a member of the Lions Club in the Free State, then moved to Boksburg and joined the Boksburg Lions Club four years ago.
