Local SPCA reflect on another successful year

The Boksburg SPCA hosted its AGM for the last financial year 2013/14 on July 30 at St Dominics.

This was Alta Gobey’s third year elected as the Boksburg SPCA chairperson.

In her report, Gobey gave an overview on what the SPCA during the past year.

Three committee members resigned, but they have already been replaced with two new committee members – Leone van der Merwe and Amina Mothupi.

Even though the SPCA lost one inspector, Gobey was happy and relieved to report that the SPCA soon thereafter managed to recruit Shimmy Mashamaite, and still has three inspectors.

“Inspector Diale Ratsela and inspector Christina Masemola, whom is also our kennel manager, are two hard-working inspectors, and we could not have done it if it wasn’t for them,” says Gobey.

Solly Tau has been appointed as assistant kennel manager and outreach officer. Michael Mofokeng was appointed as a kennel-hand and started his inspector’s course.

In this financial year, the society appointed Podro Mondlane (Oaulos) as handyman.

Gobey also thanked DA ward Clr Johan Hendricks for his ongoing support and assistance.

Boksburg SPCA manager, Wilma Steynbergh, and vetenary surgeon, Dr André Muntu, have been with the society since 2012.The SPCA has also gained a new receptionist, Erna Rahn.

The SPCA also recently managed to appoint another receptionist, Alta Potgieter.

The SPCA’s biggest fundraising event for 2014 was on February 8 and 9 at the Barnyard.

The following general fundraising efforts also did very well: street and tin collections, Christmas Cheer Fund, Uncle Tim’s, second-hand books and the Second Chance shop.

The second SPCA Animal Run in 2013 at the Boksburg Stadium was successful and the third SPCA Animal Run is scheduled for Sunday, August 31, and they are selling raffle tickets for a motorbike that is up for grabs.

The SPCA is also planning its next popular adventure walk for November 1.

Gobey thanked multiple companies and individuals for their continued support.

Dan Spengler was also presented with a life-long membership from the Boksburg SPCA as a symbol of appreciation for his hard work. – @IschkeBoksburg
