Following the disappearance of three-year-old Cuburne van Wyk in Ramaphosa, members of the EMPD Public Order Policing Unit sprang into action, vowing to track down the person named as the suspect.

Cuburne’s partially burnt little body was discovery on a mine dump.

The suspect, named “Chicken”, was apprehended in Lambton, on the afternoon of August 13, three days after the disappearance, due to the action taken by members of the EMPD and Reiger Park community members.

EMPD spokesperson Supt Wilfred Kgasago, says the MMC for Community Safety, Clr Mthuthuzeli Siboza, expressed his appreciation for this achievement by recognising POPs members at a breakfast, to thank them in person.

“In attendance were the acting Chief of Police, Johan Friedlander, Deputy Chief of Police Operations, Goodman Mzolo, and Acting Director for Specialised Services, Ngamlane Nkosi.

“Siboza commended the unit members for their sheer commitment and dedication to their work, for working around the clock and succeeding in tracking down the suspect,” he says.

Kgasago says the Public Order Policing members, as a token of appreciation, were each handed a sports bag and a USB flash drive/pen, courtesy of the MMC and EMPD senior management team. – @CarmenBoksburg
