Suspect arrested in Cuburne murder case

After three days of intensive searching, members of the EMPD arrested a man in connection with the murder of Cuburne van Wyk.

According to Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD, the man was arrested in Lambton on August 13 at 4pm.

The last time Cuburne’s family had seen him alive was a little while before he vanished on Wednesday afternoon, August 6, when he was playing with his sister and brother outside the yard of his aunt’s shack in Road Reserve, Ramaphosa.

His body was found, burnt, in a mine dump in Reiger Park on August 9.

“The man who goes by the name of ‘Chicken’, wanted in connection with the death of the three-year-old was confronted by the metro police on Piercy Avenue and when asked who he was, he gave the police a wrong name.

“He changed his tune when the metro police produced a photo of him and it was only then that he admitted he was ‘Chicken’ from Ramaphosa.”

The 25-year-old suspect was handed over to SAPS members at Germiston police station.
