Gungubele to pay tribute to Cuburne

The Mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mondli Gungubele, is expected to join the anticipated hundreds of mourners to pay respect to three-year-old Cuburne van Wyk, whose partially burnt body was on Saturday, August 9, found on the mine dump, in Reiger Park.

The service will be held at the Reiger Park Civic Centre at 2pm, on Wednesday, August 14.

“The anguish of Chriselle van Wyk, whose son was brutally murdered, poses a question on the value of women and children in society,” says metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

Ironically, on the day of the commemoration of national Women’s Day, Chriselle received the devastating news on the shocking discovery of her son’s body.

“For this reason women’s organisations will make their voices heard at the memorial service of Curburne van Wyk.”

Gungubele is also expected to use the platform to call upon the community to respond the constitutional imperative to respect the right to life, and protect women and children in the communities.

This will be the mayor’s second visit to the township to pay respect to a child who has lost his life in such a horrifying manner.

Gungubele joined dozens of dignitaries the Morris family, relatives, friends and thousands of mourners to pay respect to Taegrin Morris (4), who died on Saturday night, July 19, after being dragged alongside his parent’s hijacked car in Reiger Park.

The event also held at the civic centre was attended by more than two thousand grieving mourners from all over the province. – @FanieBoksburg
