I paid on time, so why am I getting a final notice?

A number of residents have raised concerns with regards to the manner in which the metro is handing their electricity accounts and queries, including handing out final notices wrongfully.

Doanda Meyers received a final notice reflecting that she had not paid her account on time and was charged an extra R87.78.

“First of all, I paid my most recent account on June 2 already. When I tried to phone the numbers provided, not one was answered, so I could not prove to anybody that I had paid my bill before the payment date,” says Meyers.

“Secondly, if I look at my payment history on this website it looks like the last payment date was in December last year; I don’t know what to do.”

Metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe says the telephone number quoted by Meyers was tested and was answered within two rings.

Gadebe says that a payment from Meyers was made on June 5 and not June 2 as Meyers stated.

“The client made a payment on June 5 by means of an EFT. Due to an administrative challenge, this payment was updated onto the applicable account on June 17. However, a final notice was rendered on that same day. The fee in respect of this final notice has since been reversed,” says Gadebe.

Gadebe says Meyers is invited to contact the Revenue Division at the Boksburg Civic Centre, should there be a need to do so.

“Any inconvenience caused as a result of the payment made on June 5, and updated on June 17, is deeply regretted and apologies are tendered in this regard.”

The Advertiser is in possession of emails between Meyers and different metro officials who were unable to assist her. -@TumeloBoksburg
