Suspects caught red-handed with R40 000 stolen goods

After receiving a tip-off, the EMPD Kathorus Crime Prevention members apprehended two suspects found in possession of suspected stolen goods.

According to Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD, the goods were estimated to be worth around R40 000; they also found a firearm with its serial numbers filed off.

“The arrests took place at around 6.30pm on August 1, within the Somalia informal settlement, which is situated near Vosloorus.”

He says that the concerned members of the community blew the whistle on the pair when they were seen moving truck tyres, truck batteries, a laptop, a generator and tool-box out in the open.

“The suspects were arrested by the metro police at their shack where the suspected goods were found including a .22 pistol with 22 live rounds,” Kgasago says.

Charges of possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition as well as possession of suspected stolen goods were laid against the two suspects at Dawn Park police station.

They are expected to appear in the Vosloorus Magistrates Court soon. – @CarmenBoksburg
