Court news : Man gets nine years for attempted murder

The following cases were heard in the Boksburg Magistrates Court:

Devlon Grond (23), from Reiger Park, appeared in court on a charge of attempted murder.

He pleaded not-guilty on June 11, was found guilty and sentenced on June 23, to nine years.

On December 22, 2013, the accused attempted to murder Donovan de Klerk by shooting him three times in the leg.

He had previous convictions from October 2012, these included possession of an unlicenced firearm, two for pointing a firearm and two for crimen injuria.

Magistrate Sijren Harichand presided over the matter, and Nokosazana Tyeku appeared on behalf of the State.

n Joseph Mailula (46) from Villa Liza, appeared in court on a charge of contravening a protection order.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on June 5, and sentenced on July 28. The magistrate postponed the passing of sentence for five years.

On May 26 the accused contravened a protection order when he hit the complainant with an open hand.

He had a previous conviction of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm from 2000.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter, and Thomas Maluleke appeared on behalf of the State.

* Nhlanhla Zwane, from the Boksburg prison, appeared in court on a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on June 18, and sentenced on July 28. The magistrate postponed the passing of sentence for five years.

On February 5, the accused assaulted Thulani Khumalo by stabbing and biting him.

He had previous convictions of theft in 2007, theft in 2008, possession of drugs in 2012, possession of suspected stolen property in 2012, three charges of house breaking in 2012.

* Gift Phatathi (24) appeared in court on a charge of possession of dagga.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on July 21, and sentenced on July 28. The magistrate postponed the passing of sentence for five years.

On June 6, the accused was found in possession of 0.003g of dagga.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter, and Thomas Maluleke appeared on behalf of the State.

* Thulani Sithole (19) appeared in court on a charge of malicious injury to property.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on July 3, and sentenced on July 29 to R3 000 or 12 months imprisonment suspended for five years and was ordered to pay the complainant R200 for three months.

On June 8 the accused broke the windscreen of Felazono Chilundo.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter, and Thomas Maluleke appeared on behalf of the State.

* Nkululgko Msobi (25) appeared in court on a charge of theft.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on June 17, and sentenced on July 29 to R2 000 or eight months imprisonment.

On March 29 the accused stole three men’s roll-on’s from Game, to the value of R49.50.

He had a previous conviction of possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition from 2005.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter, and Thomas Maluleke appeared on behalf of the State.

* Mzwandile Adons (29), from Vosloorus, appeared in court on a charge of theft.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on June 18, and sentenced on July 24. The magistrate postponed the passing of sentence for five years.

On May 30 the accused stole a burglar door to the value of R800 from Johanna Muthanya.
