DA concerned over looming Gautrain strike

Reports that staff of the Gautrain is soon to embark on yet another strike, is disconcerting.

According to DA Gauteng spokesperson on Roads and Transport, Neil Campbell, previous reports brought to the Roads and Transport portfolio committee of the Legislature by Gautrain bus drivers, contained similar allegations of unfair labour practice by Gautrain management.

“If the allegations of the sudden, unilateral withdrawal of parking benefits are true, the unhappiness of employees can be understood.”

Of further concern are allegations by employees that water is unsafe to drink at Gautrain stations.

“If this is the case then the public is also at risk, as I have not seen any warnings that water at Gautrain facilities is unsafe to drink.”

Campbell argues that this could lead to claims against the Gautrain Management Agency, its concessionaire or the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport.

“The public deserves an unambiguous statement from Gautrain management regarding the safety of water in its stations, as well as the reassurance that their critical commuter service will not be interrupted.”

He says that Gauteng’s economy cannot afford to suffer any losses due to unfair labour practices. – @IschkeBoksburg
