R100 000 reward for information, suspect allegedly identified

The family of Taegrin Morris, killed during a hijacking has on Tuesday, July 22, attended an identity parade.

A family member, who declined to give too much information for safety reasons, confirmed that an identity parade was held, and the family allegedly managed to identify one of the attackers.

Spokesperson for the Gauteng SAPS Col Noxolo Khweza, however, declined to comment on reports that one of the alleged hijackers was pointed out in an identity parade.

At the same time, Khweza confirmed that police are questioning one person in connection with the hijacking, but stressed that he is not a suspect.

According to Khweza, the police have doubled the reward offered for information that would lead to the arrest of Taegrin’s killers.

“We have increased the reward to R100 000, from R50 000,” says Khweza.

The incident has sparked emotional reactions from Boksburg residents, while the angry community in Reiger Park has called for the suspects to be handed over to them for street justice to be meted out.

Reiger Park station commander Col Sipho Mathebula has, however, appealed to community members to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, and stressed that the police should be allowed to do their jobs.
