Police hunt five after robberies in Freeway Park

Police are hunting for five men linked to two separate violent robberies at different houses in Freeway Park, during which one of the victims was tied up.

The wanted gang threatened the two families with firearms, at their homes, before stealing a number of items.

A gang of three men forced their way into the property on Saron Road, Freeway Park, at about 2.35pm, July 1.

Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Col Kwendzakwakhe Ngobese, confirmed the incident.

According to the victim, who wishes to stay anonymous, she went out to buy some dog food and when returning home after about five minutes, she found a blue van in the yard.

Unbeknownst to her, the criminals were already inside her property.

“When I stopped in the driveway, suddenly I saw the robbers by the car’s window. They grabbed my arms and forced me into the house, where they then covered my face with a shirt before they tied me up,” says the victim.

They stole the family’s belongings, including a pistol, a fridge, a cellphone, jewellery, two TV sets, two computers and a generator, before they drove away in their vehicle and the victim’s VW Golf worth R450 000.

The incident took about 15 minutes and the victim described the robbers as fairly violent.

“One of them whispered in my ear, ‘don’t look at me or I’ll shoot you’. I never looked at them.

“I never felt safe in the area even before the attack. It is awful that some people make a living from crime. I feel very sorry for them,” says the victim.

While the police were still helping the first victim to open a case of house robbery at the police station, at about 4pm, police received another complaint of a house robbery, a few metres away from where the first house robbery took place.

Officers were dispatched to the residence in Speel Street, Freeway Park, after it was reported that two robbers forced their way into a house, and held the homeowner at gunpoint.

They stole his jewellery and firearm.

The robbers also removed the tracking device from the victim’s Mercedes Benz and dumped it in the property, before they drove away in the stolen vehicle.

The five suspects involved in these two incidents are described as black men and were speaking in English.

According to Ngobese, although those involved were not injured, they were left traumatised by their ordeal, and suffered big losses in personal property.

“I appeal to anyone with any information or any witnesses to contact us as soon as possible to identify those involved.” appeals Ngobese.

Anyone with information is asked to called the Boksburg police on 011 841 6844/00.

  1. This is rediculous. Is it a case of the police being incapable or incompetent to catch these robbers, or are the complicit?
