New ward councillor for ward 92

Following the by-election in ward 92 on Wednesday, July 2, Ashley Rutherford of the DA has been elected as the new councillor for this ward.

Ward 92 consists of Impala Park West, Witkoppie Ridge, Bardene, Bartlett and extensions of these suburbs.

The seat was retained by the opposition party.

Former ward Clr Graham Gersbach, was elected to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.

Rutherford says she is “super excited” for the term ahead and is already planning her duties as ward councillor.

She aims to address the biggest problems first, and then continue to the smaller ones.

“My main concern is service delivery and infrastructure – there are a lot of things not working.”

Rutherford strives to give people back their power.

“People have to beg and plead for basic rights, but it doesn’t have to be like that.”

According to Rutherford, her commitments to the residents of ward 92 include working to fight corruption on all levels, hold regular feedback meetings with the community, to address problems, work to create a transparent local government, and prioritising job creation for all the people in our municipality.

Some of the major issues in the suburbs of ward 92 that are still being addressed including illegal dumping on the corners of Ridge and Elizabeth roads, and Springbok and Yaldwyn roads; the H2O and other disturbances; electricity outages; storm water problems along and adjacent to the Blesbokspruit; road maintenance and heavy trucks on suburban roads. – @IschkeBoksburg
