Rotaries take a gamble on charity

The Benoni Rotary team accumulated 20 975 points to raise the most funds at the Carnival Charity Fundraiser at Carnival City on Thursday evening, May 29.

Five Ekurhuleni-based Rotary International organisations including Nigel, Boksburg Lake Rotary, Boksburg Rotary, Benoni and Germiston, along with their selected charities, participated in the charity event which saw teams involved in fundraising games of American Roulette and Blackjack.

Benoni raised R25 000 in total.

The objective of the fundraiser was to offer each Rotary Club the opportunity to raise funds for the charity of their choice.

Benoni were followed by the Boksburg Lake Rotary team who won R10 000 in prize money after accumulating 16 377 points, with the Germiston Rotary completing the top three with 15 865 points and taking home R7 500.

“Kudos to Carnival City for a fantastic evening enjoyed by all and a fantastic initiative to raise funds for the under privileged,” said Boksburg Lake Rotary President-elect, Derek Fox.

The Boksburg Rotary finished fourth with 14 532 points with the Nigel Rotary taking fifth position. Both teams won R5 000 and R 2 500 respectively. – @SabeloBoksburg
