Department condemns the exploitation of job seekers

The Gauteng Department of Health warn members of the public about a scam run by a recruitment agency.

The agency is allegedly sending text messages, demanding money from those who applied to study nursing at the province’s colleges.

The text message claims that the application has been successful and the recipient has to pay R150 as an administration fee.

The department is calling on all those applicants not to pay anyone to secure space at any of their nursing colleges, as no cost is involved in the recruitment process.

“The applications closed on May 2 and the selection process, which involves short listing of candidates, a psychometric test and interview, is currently underway and those selected will be called to participate,” says spokesperson, Simon Zwane.

He adds that successful applicants will be informed only in November, and even then they will bear no cost.

“I encourage victims of this scam to report the matter to the police, so the allegations can be thoroughly investigated and the culprits brought to book,” he adds.

“Complaints can also be submitted through our 24-hour call centre, on 0860 011 000.”
