Crime news in brief: Gang terrorism overruns Boksburg

Latest crime news from Boksburg SAPS:

House robbery

* Two robbers, armed with a firearm forced their way into a house located at Spreeu Road, Sunward Park, just after 5pm on April 28. They then robbed the occupants of the house of their belongings, including a camera, jewellery and a cellphone.

* A Sunward Park family is left counting the cost after three men, described as African males, all armed with firearms, forced their way into a house situated at King Fisher Avenue, at about 6.15pm on April 29. The intruders then stole three cellphones, a jewellery box containing costume jewellery.

* Also at about 11am, on April 30, armed robbers forced their way into a house at 13 Aries Street, Sunward Park.

They stole a silver BMW valued at R600 000, cellphones, TV sets, cameras, playstations, laptops and other valuable goods. The thugs were seen driving in a grey BMW.

Hijacking

A woman was lucky to have her maroon Mercedes Benz recovered within hours after five armed men hijacked it along Gesterente Street, Sunward Park, at about 7.30pm, on May 2. The vehicle was recovered in Palmridge, where the thugs apparently abandoned it.

Business robbery

Four men, two of them carrying firearms stormed into a foreign-owned spaza shop, forced workers to the ground and then took off with R3 000 in cash, groceries and airtime vouchers.

The robbery happened in Comet Village, on April 30.

In another business robbery, five men, one armed with a firearm robbed a dry cleaner along Market Street, Boksburg CBD, in broad daylight, on May 2.

They stole R4 000 in cash.

Also on April 30, four males, one armed with a firearm entered a spaza shop in Angelo informal settlement and robbed. They stole R2 000 in cash and airtime vouchers.

The men were in and out in a matter of minutes, according to the police.

In all the above incidents, none of the victims were injured and no shots were fired.

The suspects are still on the run, but detectives are busy collecting more evidence in the search for those involved.

Police believe that the gang of robbers, suspected to be the same ones involved in all the armed robberies, are from one of the informal settlements.
