Drug trade remains rife in Boksburg North

Residents of Boksburg North have raised their concerns over the drug problem in the area, especially along First and Fourth Street.

One resident, who wishes to remain anonymous for safety reasons, says that he has witnessed numerous drug deals, yet bemoans the fact that it seems the police aren’t doing anything about the drug trade.

“Recently I was parked at the corner of Trichardts and Charl Cilliers roads and witnessed clearly a drug deal between a young man and two ‘drug runners’, who came from a certain property,” says the resident.

He says that he went to the Boksburg North Detective branch and reported the incident and the drug situation in general.

“I was told that they were aware of the situation at the property and that it is one of their biggest problems. I was also shockingly informed that the law had changed, and that other than trying to set up a transaction trap or place unmarked vehicles, there is nothing much they can do.

“Come on. In other words there is no law or any authorities in the Boksburg force who can investigate, bust or destroy some of these ‘legally operated’ drug areas destroying people’s lives.

“The drug deals are taking place out in the open and in broad daylight. Why can nothing be done about this?”

According to him, he was informed that there were also some SAPS members that are involved in making the situation even more problematic.

Lieut Juanita Coetzer, communications officer for the Boksburg North SAPS, says that during the month of April they had made 81 drug-related arrests.

She adds that they are busy with drug operations on a daily basis.

“We need the community to provide us with information regarding drug problems. The law has not changed and these operations will continue,” she says.
