Celebrate Your Right to Education with Caxton

Celebrating your right to education echoes the long walk to freedom that our former leader Nelson Mandela made for us.

JOHANNESBURG – Human Rights Day lies at the heart of every South African’s ethos; it is a symbol of our heritage, a symbol of our nation’s progress.

In the spirit of Mandela’s legacy Caxton East Rand and Joburg South have launched a bursary competition with the help and sponsorship of LITE Campus, a tertiary tuition provider based in Randburg.

South African citizens are being given the chance to win full undergraduate tuition bursaries to study Bachelor of Commerce Degrees through the University of South Africa.

Fifteen winners will be selected by Caxton South to win the bursary prizes valued at R118 500 each, a prize with the total value of R 1 777 500.

The competition aims to identify individuals with the potential to pursue careers in commerce and hopes to encourage the youth of South Africa to get excited about education and the path it paves.

Digital Support Specialist at Caxton Joburg South, Malcolm Maifala said, “This initiative is not only about giving back to the communities we serve, but investing in the future of our communities.

“Our vision is to see young people from the East Rand and the South of Johannesburg being given the opportunity to further their studies after completing grade 12.

“We would like to thank LITE Campus for the contribution they are making in assisting Caxton Local Newspapers to continue uplifting the standard of living in the communities we serve.”

CEO of LITE John Lambson had the following to say about the initiative: “I speak on behalf of LITE Campus when I say that we are thrilled to become involved in Caxton’s project.

“Investing in our community is something that we as an organisation feel very strongly about and we hope that this can be an on-going relationship in which we can continually provide opportunities.”

Fifteen Caxton South publications are running the competition and each will select a winner. The competition will run from the April 1 to June 30.

During this time community members will be encouraged to submit motivational letters to Caxton South, explaining how this opportunity will change their lives and why they deserve to obtain a Bachelor of Commerce degree.

The competition culminates on Mandela Day when Caxton South will announce the 15 community members chosen for the bursary prizes. A prize-giving function will be held on the following Saturday at LITE Campus for the handover.

Winners will be given the chance to meet the staff and lecturers who will oversee their academic studies in 2015.
