Suspects arrested for murder of Derrick Wood

Six suspects aged between 26 and 38 were arrested on March 19, in Katlehong and Klippoortjie, for the murder and robbery of Derrick Wood in Victory Park on February 27.

The 53-year-old man was killed near his child’s school when the suspects robbed him of R40 000. Wood had been followed from the bank to the school.

According to Lieut-Col Katlego Mogale, provincial spokesperson for the SAPS, it is alleged that members of the Linden Detectives received information on the whereabouts of the suspects, which led them to Katlehong where the white Volkswagen Golf was discovered.

“Together with the vehicle, three suspects were arrested on the scene. “The information led them to a house in Klippoortjie where another suspects was found,” she says.

She adds that while searching the premises, two unlicensed firearms were recovered.

“While still on the scene, two suspects arrived in a Toyota Corolla and were also arrested.”

The suspects will appear in the Randburg Magistrates court soon on charges of murder, armed robbery as well as possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
