Kidnapped toddler found in Windmill Park

A toddler, who was kidnapped in Bertrams on February 21, was found with the suspect in Windmill Park on Thursday, February 27.

Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD, says that the father of the child received information that she was in the area and sought the assistance of the EMPD.

“The EMPD Kathorus Crime Prevention Unit members located the stolen child in Windmill Park and arrested a young woman for kidnapping at 11.30am.”

He says that the 22-year-old suspect is a girlfriend of the father but not the biological mother.

“It is alleged that the biological mother left the baby with her father when she was only five months old.

“The suspect decided to disappear with the child while the father was taking a bath.”

He adds that friends of the suspect provided information to the father that they were puzzled that their friend had suddenly had a child as she had never been seen pregnant.

“With the assistance of the metro police, the woman, after being missed at her parents place in Villa Lisa, was found with the toddler in Windmill Park and arrested.

“Both the recovered child and the suspect were handed over to Dawn Park police, who will take them to Jeppe police station, where the case of kidnapping was originally registered seven days ago.”

The father has been happily reunited with his daughter.
