Fatally stabbed officer laid to rest
The Reiger Park police office, Const Cynthia Monkwe, who was fatally stabbed, allegedly by her boyfriend, a police officer, has been laid to rest in Mokopane, Limpopo.
The Brakpan police cluster dispatched dozens of its police officers to the funeral of their colleague, held on Saturday, February 8.
According to police, Monkwe died from three fatal stab wounds, afterwards, a passerby found her lying on the ground, covered in blood, on Monday, February 3.
Few days after the incident, police arrested her boyfriend, who also serves as a police officer at the Reiger Park SAPS, in connection with the murder.
He was charged with murder and his trial was meant to start on Friday, February 7.
However, the suspect was released because the case was not put on the court roll due to a lack of evidence to link the suspect with the killing.
According to Brig Neville Malila, spokesperson for the SAPS, investigations are ongoing and they are also awaiting the autopsy report.
Malila says once they have gathered enough evidence the case will be placed back on the roll.
