An alleged robber has been arrested after a late afternoon business robbery that ended with a victim fighting back.

The victim knocked one of the robbers to the ground, and held the robber down until police arrived.

The arrested suspect, along with two other robbers, allegedly arrived at Mills Supermarket, situated at the corner of Market and Kaap streets, Boksburg CBD, and held up the shop owner with a knife on Sunday, January 26.

The shop owner, who was the only person in the store at the time, noticed the three suspicious-looking men before they entered the store, and he immediately phoned his friends, who also run a shop, nearby.

While talking on the phone, two of the suspected robbers entered the shop, approached the victim, and demanded money at knifepoint, according to the police.

The third suspect remained at the entrance of the shop.

“One of the suspects pointed the knife at the victim while the other suspect goes through the till and stole R2 000 in cash, as well as airtime vouchers.

The victim lunged at the man with the knife, knocked the suspect to the ground, and held him down until police arrived.

The victim’s friend also arrived, and when the other two robbers saw him approaching, they ran away. They were seen fleeing the scene on foot.

Boksburg police officers responded to the store just after 6.30pm, on a report of a business robbery in progress.

Officers immediately apprehended the suspect, who was still held down by the victim and his friend.

The suspect was charged with business robbery and appeared in court on Monday, January 27.

The search for the two suspects, who escaped, continues.

In another story, two alleged robbers were also arrested after robbing a man of his belongings, while walking along the Boksburg Lake, at about 1pm on Sunday, January 27.

The victim told the police that he was confronted by the pair while walking along the area, whereby one of the suspects threatened him with a knife, and the other took his wallet and R400 in cash.

Once the robbers got the victim’s belongings, the pair ran away. Unbeknown to them, another person who was walking behind the victim witnessed the whole incident, and he immediately called the police.

Both the eyewitness and the victim helped the police quickly arrest the attackers by following the suspects, while alerting the police of the suspects’ whereabouts.

Thereafter the police managed to arrest the alleged robbers at one of the dilapidated houses next to Boksburg East railway line station.

No one was harmed during both robberies.
