Benoni Northerns visit Boksburg

Following a hefty home defeat to log-leaders Kempton Park, Boksburg Cricket Club will host another top-of-the-table side in the form of Benoni Northens this Sunday, at PG Park.

Northerns now sit pretty in second following CBC Old Boys’ home defeat to Springs Old Boys, which has relegated them to third on the league standings.

Meanwhile, Boksburg lie in eighth and will be looking to curb Northerns’ momentum at home. Herein we look at two men who might be the difference in the match.

Ruan du Plessis

It’s been a tough campaign for Boksburg and the top-order batsman, form wise. The men from PG Park have just not been consistent enough, but that should not detract from his status as one of the outstanding batsmen in his side.

Despite Boksburg’s indifferent form, he has consistently churned out the runs and the victory against Duduza in their first game of 2014, where he was just five shy from reaching half-a-century is an example in point.

Who could forget that bitter-sweet half century performance against the same Duduza in November last year. I say bitter-sweet because Duduza won that one.

Should he deliver a routine performance together with the likes of John Haywood and Michael Holtzhauzen making the step-up, we could be in for a cracker.

Ernest Kemm

The log never lies. The Northerns all-rounder has played a pivotal role in helping his side be where they are right now: battling for top honours with Kempton and CBC.

The former Tuks player has delivered stellar performances with both bat and ball in virtually all of his side’s matches this season.

With his team sandwiched by Kempton and CBC on the log standings in pursuit of the title, Kemm and his side won’t need more motivation to produce a top performance and a show for the fans.
