Registered e-toll account members can access their account details, including photographs of them travelling on the Gauteng highway network, by logging onto the online e-toll management system.

This allows them to check any queries they have about their vehicle being on a toll road at a specific time.

“There will always be some queries regarding this, and the fact is simply that registered e-toll account holders have access to their account details through the online e-toll account management system – and that includes camera images,” says Vusi Mona, spokesperson for Sanral.

Those who are not registered can request camera images without having to register, by merely establishing a username and password. Producing evidence of a traffic violation cannot be an issue.

“It is also true that the owner of a vehicle is responsible for any traffic-related issues, as the law accepts that the owner is the driver,” says Mona.

“Additionally, the owner is also responsible for ensuring that the contact details on the vehicle registration remain current.”

When ownership of a vehicle is changed, as in the case of the sale of the vehicle, the original owner’s name will remain on the vehicle database until a new registration has been completed.

“To make certain there is no fraud as far as false number plates or any such conduct is concerned, there have to be proper processes in place; Sanral is meticulous in this regard, because it has the best interests of its customers at heart,” Mona adds.
